    2023

  • The IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium 2023 – a success at the Montreal Convention Centre

The 2023 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium was held at the Palais des congrès de Montréal under the chairmanship of Guy Cloutier, from September 3 to 8, 2023. The international organizing committee included the co-chair of the congress, Elisa Konofagou (Columbia University), as well as other researchers from the Department or network of the University of Montreal, including François Yu (University of Montreal, responsible for communications and hybrid mode), An Tang (University of Montreal, responsible for the satellite symposium on artificial intelligence in ultrasound), Jean Provost (École Polytechnique de Montréal, co-responsible for the satellite symposium), Arnaud Héroux (University of Montreal, co-responsible for student activities) and Louise Allard (University of Montreal, co-responsible for local events).

This congress brought together leading international experts in ultrasonic technological developments, the most important component of which is medical ultrasonography. Presentations were also given on industrial acoustics, the development of ultrasonic transducers, the development of acoustic microsystems, and other more fundamental achievements in acoustic physics.

The congress brought together 1,888 participants, with an equal proportion of researchers from Asia, Europe, and America. As Dr. Guy Cloutier mentioned, they were able to see the latest technological developments that will eventually be implemented in clinical ultrasound machines, from which patients will benefit.

An important part of the congress was dedicated to research and applications of artificial intelligence in ultrasonography, with Professor Yoshua Bengio from the University of Montreal as the keynote speaker.

  • CIHR grant awarded to Guy Cloutier's team

Congratulations to Guy Cloutier and his team on receiving a grant from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) for the project "Inflammatory phenotype, senescence, and viscoelasticity imaging of macrophages in HIV." The application was ranked first within the Medical Physics and Imaging Committee. His team also includes Francis Rodier (Full Professor, Department of Radiology, Radiation Oncology and Nuclear Medicine), Jean-François Cailhier (Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Medicine), Nicolas Chomont (Associate Professor, Department of Microbiology, Infectious Diseases and Immunology), Gerardo Ferbeyre (Full Professor, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine), Catherine Martel (Associate Professor, Department of Medicine), and Madeleine Durand (Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Medicine).
